NORSAR and Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) announce the signature of a contract for the supply of a DAS interrogation system.
Paris, France | Oslo, Norway – November 24, 2020 - ASN has recently launched an advanced Distributed Acoustic Sensing interrogator (OptoDAS) based on a unique interrogation technique providing ultra-low-noise and long-range phase recordings.
NORSAR, an independent research foundation, and Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) have signed a contract for the delivery of an OptoDAS interrogator packaged in a portable unit including data recording facility. “We are proud to have been selected by NORSAR to supply our OptoDAS solution for seismological applications. We believe that the ultra-low-noise performance and the interrogation capability of OptoDAS over distances up to 150 km are well suited for earthquake monitoring” said Eric Bouvart, ASN Sales Director for Oil & Gas and Fiber Sensing.
ASN’s unique distributed acoustic sensing technology is expected to open-up many new applications for offshore oil and gas, subsea telecom and power cable industry as well as long range terrestrial structure monitoring.
NORSAR is the Norwegian competence center for earthquake monitoring and applied geophysics. As an independent institute, we carry out research and consultancy services in these areas. NORSAR operate one of the world's most advanced earthquake monitoring systems, also used to verify the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). NORSAR has recently received funding from the Norwegian Research Council to establish a pool of distributed sensing equipment.
